Gullas College of Medicine (GCM) held a Dashain celebration with its Nepalese students, honoring one of Nepal’s most cherished festivals through a small cultural gathering.

The celebration brought members of the GCM community together to observe meaningful traditions and share the spirit of unity, gratitude, and togetherness associated with Dashain.

Honoring Dashain Traditions at GCM

Dashain is one of Nepal’s most important festivals, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. It is traditionally marked by family gatherings, blessings from elders, and the giving of tika and jamara.

During the gathering, students observed the traditional tika ritual, which involves applying a red mixture of rice, yogurt, and vermilion to the forehead as a symbol of blessings, good fortune, and prosperity.

For Nepalese students pursuing their medical education away from home, the gathering provided an opportunity to reconnect with familiar traditions and celebrate their cultural heritage within the GCM community.

Dashain Celebration Strengthens Cultural Unity at GCM

Beyond honoring Nepalese traditions, the Dashain celebration reflected GCM’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for students from different countries and cultural backgrounds.

GCM also extends its appreciation to the Supreme Student Council (SSC) and the Student Affairs and Services Center (SASC) for organizing the celebration and providing students with an opportunity to share their traditions and strengthen their sense of community.

Through cultural activities like Dashain, GCM continues to celebrate diversity, encourage meaningful connections, and create a sense of belonging among its students.
