Our History
1977 The Beginning of GCM’s Journey
The Gullas College of Medicine (GCM) was founded in 1977 in Mandaue City, Cebu, as the medical arm of the University of the Visayas (UV) system.
Established by the family of Don Vicente Gullas and Lady Josefina R. Gullas, GCM was created in response to the country’s call for more physicians—competent doctors imbued with love, leadership, and service to humanity.
From its beginnings with the inauguration of the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital as its primary teaching hospital, GCM steadily expanded its clinical affiliations across the Visayas region, providing students—especially those from Visayas and Mindanao—better opportunities for excellent medical education closer to their localities.
Today, it is recognized as a leading destination for international medical education, attracting students from across the globe while staying rooted in its mission of service.
