The Long Commitment: GCM's School Nurse Reflects On Dedicated Years of Service

Mrs. Athena P. Singson, affectionately known as "Ma'am Athena," reflects on her three-decade service at GCM. After passing the Philippine Nurses Licensure Examination in 1991, she began her profession as a Staff Nurse at Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital. She served in numerous roles at the hospital for ten years before moving to GCM, where she is still the School Nurse today.


Mrs. Athena's 34 years of employment at the institution demonstrate her unwavering devotion to caring for others. As she is providing immediate medical assistance to students and staff, which she has accepted with love and compassion this shows her affection for the GCM community, and her dedication has inspired people around her.


Mrs. Athena's career in GCM began when she was offered a position at the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital after graduating from the University of the Visayas. Recognizing the hospital and GCM's shared beliefs and goals, she accepted the position of School Nurse, allowing her to continue her service in the institution.


When asked about her time at GCM, Mrs. Athena emphasized her sincere appreciation for the environment, the personnel, and the pupils. She has seen numerous improvements at the school over the years, particularly in the facilities and the growing number of staff members further fueling her love for GCM considering it as her second home.


Throughout the course of her service, she says that the events, the tiny, everyday moments, and the joy she sees on the faces of people she serves have all contributed to her positive experience at GCM. For her, the enjoyment of people is what genuinely distinguishes her profession.


Mrs. Athena's enduring commitment for what she does at GCM has made a lasting impact on the community. Her decades of service have been marked by compassion, dedication to improving the well-being of both students and staff members.
