The Gullas College of Medicine proudly launched the first edition of GCM Brainwaves: Clash of Minds last August 16, 2025, at the GCM Auditorium. The event brought together the brightest minds of the student body in an afternoon of wit, strategy, and school spirit.

A total of 10 teams competed in this highly anticipated quiz bowl, which tested participants’ knowledge and quick thinking across a wide range of categories: GCM Facts, General Knowledge, Pop Culture & Entertainment, World Culture & History, and Medical Knowledge.

To keep the excitement alive throughout the program, the organizers prepared ice breaker activities where both on-site participants and the online audience on YouTube Live had the chance to win special prizes. This ensured that the event was as engaging for virtual viewers as it was for those present in the auditorium.

Champions of the First Edition

After a thrilling series of rounds, the winners of the inaugural GCM Brainwaves emerged:

Beyond the top three, GCM also recognizes the commendable efforts of all participating teams: Team JCM, Trio Treasures, Men Mount, The Dart Knight (and Friends), TheInQUIZitors, Team Guesswork, and Triochondria. Their enthusiasm and competitive spirit contributed to the overall success of the program.

The awarding ceremony was made even more special with the presence of Dr. Mila Maruya, Director of the Supreme Academic Student Council (SASC), who personally handed out the prizes and certificates to the winners. Her support underscored the importance of student-led initiatives that highlight academic excellence and collaboration.

A Celebration of Knowledge, Spirit, and Style

The GCM Brainwaves not only celebrated academic excellence but also fostered camaraderie among students. It highlighted the importance of balancing knowledge with fun, and of embracing both competition and community.

The event also marked the soft launch of the upgraded GCM merchandise line, showcasing new designs that reflect the pride and identity of the Gullas College of Medicine community. Students and guests had the opportunity to preview and engage with the fresh collection, further amplifying the spirit of the day.

Looking Ahead

Building on the success of this first edition, GCM is set to conduct a special Pathology edition of Brainwaves later this year. This upcoming quiz bowl aims to prepare and sharpen our students for the International Pathology Quiz Bowl in Southeast Asia, which will take place in the last quarter of 2025.

As the first of many planned editions, GCM Brainwaves has laid a strong foundation for what promises to become a hallmark of student life — one that champions knowledge, collaboration, and the competitive spirit of future doctors.
