Last October 20, 2025, the Gullas College of Medicine, Inc. (GCM), through the Supreme Student Council, illuminated the campus with a vibrant celebration of Diwali — the Festival of Lights. Filled with joy, color, and cultural richness, the event brought together students, faculty, and staff in a heartwarming display of community and diversity.

A Celebration of Light and Culture

The program began with a traditional Pooja Ceremony, symbolizing hope, enlightenment, and the triumph of light over darkness. This was followed by opening messages from Dr. Jose Juan Rafael G. Laico and performances that set a festive tone for the day.

Throughout the morning, cultural performances and heartfelt messages from student leaders and faculty emphasized the importance of unity amidst diversity — a hallmark of the GCM community.

Flavors, Festivities, and Fun

By midday, the celebration transitioned to a lively outdoor atmosphere with food and item stalls prepared by various student organizations. The courtyard buzzed with laughter, music, and the aroma of festive delicacies.

Students participated in exciting games such as:

  • Musical Chair

  • Popularity Check

  • What’s in the Box

  • Bring the Surprise Item

These activities—organized by the Hosts and SSC Working Committee—brought friendly competition and camaraderie to the event, with winners receiving small prizes and well-earned applause.

Performances that Lit Up the Stage

In the afternoon, the Diwali performers showcased the best of Indian music, dance, and artistry through two performance segments. Each presentation highlighted the festival’s message of joy, resilience, and togetherness.

Outstanding students and contributors were recognized during the Prize Distribution Ceremony, expressing appreciation for the creativity, effort, and teamwork poured into the celebration.

Tradition, Reflection, and a Radiant Finale

As the sun began to set, the SSC Working Committee led the Maha Aarti, where students and faculty came together in a solemn moment of prayer and gratitude. This was followed by a Festive Community Dance, where everyone—regardless of nationality or background—joined in celebration.

The program ended with closing remarks from Mr. Karl Kelvin D. Opsima, followed by a breathtaking fireworks display, lighting up the night sky and symbolizing hope, new beginnings, and unity.

Gratitude and Collaboration

The success of this event was made possible with the support of the Student Affairs and Services Center and International Students Unit (SASC-ISU) led by Dr. Mila Maruya, and the All-Stars Culture and Arts – GCM. Their collaboration, along with the dedication of the SSC, truly embodied GCM’s commitment to #TheFinestTrainingForTheHighestCalling.

More than a Festival

Beyond the lights and celebrations, Diwali 2025 at GCM was a reminder of shared humanity — that even across cultures and traditions, light, kindness, and togetherness unite us all.
