Gullas College of Medicine (GCM) proudly celebrated its 44th Commencement Exercises on July 26, 2024 for the graduating medical students of 2024, honoring this year's graduating class, Batch Chiron, under the theme: “Physicians of Today: Raising the Bar of Competence and Excellence in Global Health Care.” The momentous event was held at the grand ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel and Casino Cebu last July 27, 2024 with a series of inspirational speeches from honorable guest speakers and a momentous event for the graduates.
The commencement exercises were divided into two parts - the morning session was dedicated to the local Filipino students and other foreign students; the afternoon session, on the other hand, was for the Indian students.
The commencement ceremony started with the parade of graduates, followed by the parade of faculties, followed by the entrance of colors; the doxology and Philippine National Anthem were performed by the University of the Visayas Choir.
Atty. Joseph M. Baduel, Vice President of Operations delivered the Welcome Address, with Dr. Jose Juan Rafael G. Laico, School Dean presented the candidates, followed by the Conferring of Degrees by the GCM Board of Trustees.
The Guest Speaker for the morning session was Dr. Maria Theresa Heyrosa of Batch 1998 and interim Secretary of the Gullas College of Medicine Alumni Association who quotes.
"You will be living your dream and you will become your ambition."
encouraging the graduates to let out their full potential.
The afternoon session speaker, giving an inspirational commencement address to the Indian students, was Dr. Fritzgerald C. Arancel, Chief of Medical Professional Staff, Medical Service.
He emphasized through his quote
"Your Dreams Align, but it is not enough to dream, you have to make a lot of sacrifices."
The top graduates from their respective nationalities namely Dr. Joel B. Serad of the local batch, Dr. Wonglimkittigul Luxsamon of the international batch, and Dr. Dhamija Vitika of the Indian batch delivered their inspirational speeches, quoting the following:
"We will use this knowledge, not for personal gain but we will use this knowledge as always to help other people." - Dr. Joel B. Serad, Local Batch
"You will walk faster alone, but you will walk farther together." - Dr. Wonglimkittigul Luxsamon, International Students Batch
"Oh we have grown, from being given ten exams in three days while worrying about whether all our documents are in place, it is not easy and also while relentlessly having to prove our competence to the residents and attendees everyday with blood sweat and tears indeed we have come a long way!" - Dr. Dhamija Vitika, Indian Batch
The following sessions were concluded by the speech of Chief Executive Consultant Dr. David K. Pillai who gave an inspirational speech to the graduates exclaiming to the graduates:
Don’t Waste Your Time, Time is so Precious, Time is Constant, Don’t Ever Waste it.”
As these graduates prepare to embark on their medical careers, they carry with them not only the knowledge and skills acquired through rigorous academic study but also the principles of integrity and dedication instilled by their alma mater.
GCM takes pride in the accomplishments of Batch Chiron and eagerly looks forward to the significant contributions these graduates will make in the healthcare sector as they raise the bar of competence and excellence in global healthcare.
