The Gullas College of Medicine (GCM) recently held its inaugural virtual White Coat Ceremony, signifying a milestone in a medical student’s journey to becoming a physician where a white coat is conferred to them.

With the theme “Metamorphosing from Theory to Clinical Practice,” the ceremony marks the students’ transition from the study of preclinical sciences to clinical health sciences. This comes in the form of becoming a clinical clerk studying to become a health professional.
The ceremony was formally opened by the Dean Dr. Nino Ismael Pastor who himself is a GCM alumnus.
Keynote Speaker, Dr. Jose Juan Rafael G. Laico, neurologist and GCM- Academic Consultant gave remarks on the new roles of the students once they step onto the clinical practice as they may get overwhelmed by the cultural changes outside of the school. He also reminded the students that it is not the clinic’s task to teach them, but it will be the student’s responsibility to learn where there is to learn.
After the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Laico, the virtual Ceremony began. Dr. Jasmin U. Friberg presented the members of the faculty, while Dr. Rizza Antoinette So presented the Senior Clerks (4th Year Students), where in synchrony they wore their white coats.
To cap off the ceremony, the recitation of the Hippocratic Oath and congratulatory speech was delivered by Dr. Rizza Antoinette So. Associate Dean Dr. Jasmin U. Friberg formally concluded the first virtual White Coat Ceremony.
